Joseph Michael "Joey" Crabb (born April 3, 1983 in Anchorage , Alaska ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 179 games for the Atlanta Thrashers , Toronto Maple Leafs , Washington Capitals and during his active career between 2006 and 2016 Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger .
Career
Joey Crabb began his career as a hockey player with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League , for which he played in the 2001/02 season. He was then selected in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 226th player in the seventh round of the New York Rangers . For the next four years, however, Crabb played for the Colorado College ice hockey team . He then received a contract with the Atlanta Thrashers , as he had not received a contract from the Rangers and was therefore considered a free agent . In the Thrashers' organization, however, in his first two years there only played for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Chicago Wolves , with whom he won the Calder Cup in 2008.
On December 10, 2008, he scored his first NHL goal in the game against the New York Rangers . During the season, Crabb came to 29 appearances for the Atlanta Thrashers and scored nine points. In the following season, however, he played again exclusively for the Chicago Wolves in the AHL and was one of the team's top scorers in the regular season with 53 points from 79 games. In June 2010 he was handed over to the Chicago Blackhawks along with Marty Reasoner , Jeremy Morin and two voting rights for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft , with the Thrashers receiving Dustin Byfuglien , Ben Eager , Akim Aliu and Brent Sopel in return . About three weeks later he signed a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent .
In July 2013, he signed a two-year contract with the Florida Panthers . However, he did not meet this when the New York Rangers signed him in October 2014 and in return transferred Andrew Yogan and Steven Kampfer to Florida. The rest of the season he was used exclusively at the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL and received no new contract after the end of the season. As a result, he joined the Växjö Lakers from Svenska Hockeyligan in October 2015 , before moving to Frölunda HC within the league in February 2016 . After winning the Swedish Championship, he ended his career the following summer.
