Steven Kampfer (born September 24, 1988 in Ann Arbor , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League since September 2018 .
Career
Steven Kampfer began his career as a hockey player with the Sioux City Musketeers, for which he was active from 2004 to 2006 in the junior league United States Hockey League . He then attended the University of Michigan for four years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With his university team he won the championship of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in 2008 and 2010 . During his university time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the fourth round as a total of 93rd player by the Anaheim Ducks , for which he never played, however, as these later gave up his transfer rights to the Boston Bruins . For Boston's farm team Providence Bruins , the defender made his professional ice hockey debut towards the end of the 2009–10 season when he scored one goal and provided two assists in six games in the American Hockey League .
In the 2010/11 season , the American played for Providence in the AHL and Boston in the National Hockey League . With Boston he won the Stanley Cup , but missed the required 41 games three regular season appearances to have his name engraved on the cup. However, he received a Stanley Cup ring from the Bruins and was also featured in the official team photo.
On February 27, 2012, the Boston Bruins transferred him to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Greg Zanon . After two years, he left the Wild and signed a one-year contract with the New York Rangers in July 2014 . In October, however, the Rangers and Andrew Yogan handed him over to the Florida Panthers and received Joey Crabb in return . After a little over two years, however, Kampfer moved back to the Rangers, who in return sent Dylan McIlrath to Florida.
In September 2018, Kampfer was given a second-round vote for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional seven-round vote for the same draft to the Boston Bruins, so that he returned to his first NHL team. In return, Adam McQuaid moved to New York.
