Jason Paul "Jay" Pandolfo (born December 27, 1974 in Winchester , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach of Italian descent who played 1030 games for the New Jersey Devils between 1992 and 2013 , New York Islanders and Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League on the position of left winger . Pandolfo celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the New Jersey Devils by winning the Stanley Cup in 2000 and 2003 . He has been employed by the Boston Bruins in the role of assistant trainer since 2016. His brother Mike Pandolfo , who was five years his junior, was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Pandolfo played with Mike Grier and Chris Drury during his junior years for Boston University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . The New Jersey Devils selected him in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft in the second round in 32nd position. In 1996 the Devils brought him to their farm team , to the Albany River Rats in the American Hockey League .
In the 1996/97 season , Pandolfo made his debut in the NHL. Even if Pandolfo never got more than 27 points in a season, he was a pillar of his team. His strengths lay in defensive work. The fairness was particularly positive because he had not collected more than 23 penalty minutes in any season. He helped the Devils with their two Stanley Cup victories in 2000 and 2003 . His style of play also earned him a nomination for the Frank J. Selke Trophy .
In the spring of 1999 he played for the United States at the World Cup . After the 2004/05 season was canceled due to a strike, he played 19 games for EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian ice hockey league .
After the 2009/10 season , his ongoing contract with the New Jersey Devils was dissolved and Pandolfo paid off. Pandolfo was initially without a club before he was signed for a try-out in November 2010 by the Springfield Falcons from the American Hockey League. After twelve AHL games with six scorer points, his involvement with the Falcons was already ended in December 2010. In September 2011, Pandolfo took part in the training camp of the New York Islanders , where he received a contract for the 2011/12 season about a month later . In February 2013 he was signed by the Boston Bruins . After the end of the 2012/13 season, the American ended his active career.
He was then employed by the Boston Bruins. Initially one year as Development Coach and Director of Player Personell , since 2016 he has been one of the team's assistant coaches.
