Ondřej Kaše (born November 8, 1995 in Kadaň ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Boston Bruins from the National Hockey League since February 2020 . The winger previously spent over four years in the Anaheim Ducks organization .
Career
Kaše comes from the youth division of SK Kadaň , the club in his hometown. The winger played there until 2009, before moving to the youth department of KLH Chomutov . There he played during the 2012/13 season for the first time in the U20 team in the country's top division. In the same year, the 17-year-old also celebrated his professional debut for his regular club in Kadaň, where he came on loan to appearances in the second-rate first division . Both for the U20 team, with whom he was able to celebrate winning the Czech U20 championship, as well as the SK Kadaň, Kaše ran on in the 2013/14 season. He also played for the first time for the professional team Chomutovs, the Piráti , in the extra league . Despite his seven scorer points in the 17 games of relegation and qualification, the winger could not prevent relegation to the first division. With his performances in the course of his first full season with the professionals, Kaše had also drawn attention to the franchises of the National Hockey League . In the NHL Entry Draft 2014 , he was therefore selected in the seventh round in 205th position by the Anaheim Ducks .
However, the striker remained in Chomutov and managed with the team both to win the championship of the 1st division and then to return directly to the extra league. Following the season, he was signed by the Anaheim Ducks in May 2015. They used him in the course of the 2015/16 season on their farm team San Diego Gulls in the American Hockey League . Due to an injury, the Czech only played 34 games including the play-offs . Shortly after the start of the 2016/17 season , which he started again in the AHL, Kaše was appointed to the Anaheim NHL squad for the first time and made his debut there in early November.
In the course of the 2017/18 season, the attacker significantly increased his personal statistics to 20 goals and 38 scorer points, so that his contract was extended by three years in August 2018. He did not meet this requirement in Anaheim, however, as the Czech was transferred to the Boston Bruins in February 2020 . In return, the Ducks received David Backes , young defender Axel Andersson and a first-round vote for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft .
International
For his home country, Kaše was active in the junior division at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 , the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 , the U18 World Junior Championship in 2013 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2014 and 2015 .
Achievements and Awards
- 2014 Czech U20 champion with the KLH Chomutov
- 2015 champions of the 1st division and promotion to the extra division with the Piráti Chomutov
