Career

Kevin Dean began his career as a hockey player in the team of the University of New Hampshire , for which he was active from 1987 to 1991 in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . As a high school player, he had previously been selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fifth round of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft as the 86th player . From 1991 to 1994 the defender was used exclusively for their farm teams , the Utica Devils and Albany River Rats from the American Hockey League , as well as the Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL and, after their league change, in the International Hockey League . In the 1994/95 season he made his debut in the National Hockey League . In his rookie year he immediately won the prestigious Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils. He also won the Calder Cup with New Jersey's AHL farm team Albany River Rats . In the AHL he was also elected to the First All-Star Team. In the following four years he was regularly on the ice for the New Jersey Devils in the NHL, but still ran occasionally for Albany in the AHL.

The 1999/2000 season started Dean in New Jersey League rivals Atlanta Thrashers . In December, however, he was transferred to the reigning Stanley Cup winner Dallas Stars . There he stayed not even two months before signing a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks , with whom he had a regular place in the NHL team for the following year and a half. The American spent his last season in professional hockey in the 2001/02 season with the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL, for which he scored five goals in 76 games and gave 14 assists. He then ended his active career at the age of 33.

Following his playing career, Dean returned to the New Jersey Devils franchise and was an assistant coach for their AHL farm team Lowell Devils for a total of three years from 2007 to 2010 . In the 2010/11 season he was the head coach of their other farm team, the Trenton Devils from the ECHL . In July 2011 Dean was hired by the Providence Bruins from the AHL as an assistant coach, which he finally took over as head coach in July 2016. After a season he was promoted to Bruce Cassidy's assistant with the Boston Bruins , under whom he was already active in Providence.

International

For the USA , Dean took part in the Junior World Championship in 1988 and the A-World Championship in 1998 .
