Justin David "JD" Forrest (* 15. April 1981 in Auburn , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who since July 2014 with the Elmira Jackals in the ECHL on the position of the defense plays.
Career
At the age of 16, Forrest switched to the US Ice Hockey Association's support program for the 1997/98 season . There he ran the following three seasons until the summer of 2000 for the U18 team in the North American Hockey League and the main team in the United States Hockey League . He also took part in the 1999 U18 Junior World Championship with the U18 team . After he had been selected in the sixth round at 181st position in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 by the Carolina Hurricanes , the American went to Boston College for four years , where he played for the university team in the Hockey East division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . At the turn of the year 2000/01 he was used for the second time at a junior world championship for the USA and won the college national championship with his team at the end of the season.
Since the Carolina Hurricanes had let pass the opportunity to sign Forrest, he signed his first professional contract with SaiPa Lappeenranta from the Finnish SM-liiga in the summer of 2004 as a free agent . For the 2005/06 season he then moved within the league to Ässät Pori and completed a solid season similar to the previous year. His performance in the SM-liiga made him interesting again for North American ice hockey, which led to the Carolina Hurricanes signing him in the summer of 2006. However, he missed the entire 2006/07 season after seriously injuring the cruciate ligament of his right knee in a pre-season game. For the 2007/08 season he found himself in the roster of the Hurricanes farm team , the Albany River Rats from the American Hockey League . He also played some games for the Florida Everblades and Elmira Jackals in the ECHL , before he was transferred to the San Jose Sharks on February 7, 2008 , who sent him to their farm team, the Worcester Sharks .
After Forrest had not been able to recommend himself for the NHL in Worcester, he switched to the Finnish SM-liiga club and reigning champions Kärpät Oulu shortly after the start of the season in Europe . For this he completed an outstanding playing time with 33 scorer points in 52 games and a positive plus / minus balance of 21. He was among the top defenders in the league in fourth place and in the plus / minus rating in third place in the entire league . Although he was eliminated with the team in the Champions Hockey League in the preliminary round, but in the national championship the team advanced to the playoff finals, where they were defeated by the eventual champions JYP Jyväskylä in four games.
In November 2009 Forrest signed a contract with Kloten Flyers until the end of the season. They observed him during the Germany Cup , where he represented his home country. For the 2010/11 season , the American returned to Finland and signed a contract with Jokerit Helsinki . In May 2011 Forrest decided to leave the club and received a contract with the Malmö Redhawks from HockeyAllsvenskan . The contract was concluded for one season and contains a clause to extend this for another season.
Between 2012 and 2014 he was under contract with the Augsburger Panthers in the DEL.
