Corey Tropp (born July 25, 1989 in Grosse Pointe Woods , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has played in the position of right winger for the San Diego Gulls in the American Hockey League since February 2016 .

Career

Tropp began his career with the Sioux Falls Stampede in the United States Hockey League (USHL), for which he was active from 2005 to 2007. In the 2006/07 season he won the Clark Cup , the USHL championship trophy, with the Stampede . Then Corey Tropp was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the third round at a total of 89th position by the Buffalo Sabers . After the draft he attended Michigan State University for three years and played for their ice hockey team, the Michigan State Spartans, in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). At the end of his last junior season in 2009/10, the offensive player was elected to the CCHA Second All-Star team. On July 6, 2010 Tropp signed an entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabers.

His first season as a professional player he spent entirely with Buffalo's farm team , the Portland Pirates , in the American Hockey League (AHL). His first appearance in the National Hockey League (NHL) had Tropp on November 4, 2011 in a game of the Sabers against the Calgary Flames . He scored his first goal two games later on November 8 against goalkeeper Ondřej Pavelec of the Winnipeg Jets . Overall, Corey Tropp completed 34 games for the Buffalo Sabers in the 2011/12 NHL season , scoring eight points . In addition, he was used in 27 AHL games for Buffalo's new farm team Rochester Americans .

In the 2013/14 season he was at the beginning of the Sabers squad, but was sent back to AHL at the end of November to make room for the newly signed Matt D'Agostini in the squad. When he was about to pass the waiver , he was signed up by the Columbus Blue Jackets .

In June 2015 he was transferred to the Chicago Blackhawks along with Marko Daňo , Artjom Anissimow , Jeremy Morin and a four-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft . In return, the Blue Jackets went to Brandon Saad , Alex Broadhurst and Michael Paliotta . The Blackhawks then gave him to their AHL farm team, the Rockford IceHogs , during the pre-season . However, in October he was transferred to the Albany Devils on loan . In February 2016, the Blackhawks gave the NHL rights to Tropp to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Tim Jackman and a seven-round vote for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft . Since then, he has mainly been used for the Ducks by their farm team, the San Diego Gulls , in the AHL.

After failing to get a new contract in Anaheim at the end of the 2017/18 season, he signed an AHL-limited contract with the San Diego Gulls in July 2018.
