Travis Boyd (born September 14, 1993 in Hopkins , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who is under contract with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL) and at the same time for their farm team , the Hershey Bears , in American Hockey League (AHL) plays on the position of the center .
Career
Born in Hopkins, Minnesota, Boyd initially played for the local Hopkins High School as a youth before serving in the United States Hockey League (USHL) from 2009 to 2011 on the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) .
In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , Boyd was selected in the sixth round in 177th position by the Washington Capitals . He then played for the University of Minnesota in the leagues of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), from 2011 to 2013 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and from 2013 to 2015 in the Big Ten Conference (B1G). At the end of March 2015, he was awarded an entry level contract by the Capitals and transferred to the Capitals farm team, the Hershey Bears . There he scored a goal and an assist in the last two games of the 2014/15 AHL season . His contract with the Capitals was extended for another year in July 2017.
In December 2017, Boyd was named to the Washington Capitals squad and played his first game in the NHL on December 4, 2017 in the 4-1 home win of the Capitals against the San Jose Sharks . At the end of the 2017/18 season he won the Stanley Cup with the Capitals , but was not immortalized on the trophy because he had only played one game in the playoffs.
International
Travis Boyd represented his home country at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2010 and the U18 Junior World Championship 2011 in Germany . In both tournaments he was able to win the gold medal with Team USA.
