The St. Cloud State University is a university in St. Cloud , Minnesota . With 17,000 students, it is the second largest college in Minnesota and is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System .

history

In 1869 the St. Cloud Normal School was founded, which initially trained teachers for elementary schools and later also for high schools . In 1921 it was converted to St. Cloud State Teachers College . In 1957 the college became St. Cloud State College and in 1975 it became St. Cloud State University .

Today five faculties offer more than 200 undergraduate programs and 40 graduate programs. There are currently around 17,000 students enrolled, divided into around 15,200 undergraduate students and around 1,800 graduate students. A total of around 1100 students come from abroad.

Sports

The university's sports teams are called Huskies and compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference within NCAA Division II . The ice hockey teams represented in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (Division I) are an exception . The men's team plays their home games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center . The colors are cardinal red and black, the mascot is called Blizzard .

Well-known graduates

Numerous athletes made it from St. Cloud State University into a professional league. Successes could be achieved especially in ice hockey. Players who later played in the NHL include Tyler Arnason , Frank Brimsek , Dennis Cholowski , Matt Cullen , Nic Dowd , Jeff Finger , Mark Hartigan , Bret Hedican , Matt Hendricks , Nick Jensen , Ryan Malone , Andreas Nödl , Mark Parrish , Joe Motzko .

Other well-known people who attended the college are Richard Dean Anderson (actor), Leo Kottke (musician) and Nicole Linkletter (winners of America's Next Top Model).
