Because the son of Canadian parents was born in the United States, he is a citizen of both Canada and the United States.

The 1.80 m tall center initially played in various junior leagues, during his college days he was on the ice for St. Cloud State University in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the 1998 NHL Entry Draft , the left-handed shooter was finally selected ( drafted ) as 183rd in the seventh round by the Chicago Blackhawks .

Already in the 2001/02 season , the attacker was used by the Blackhawks in the National Hockey League, although he also played for the Chicago farm team , the Norfolk Admirals , in the American Hockey League , but after the season Arnason was part of the regular squad NHL franchises . During the lockout in the 2004/05 season , the striker played for Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien and was then transferred to the Ottawa Senators in March 2006 by the Blackhawks in exchange for Brandon Bochenski and a second-round draft pick. There Arnason could not prevail and also injured so that he could not take part in the play-offs. As a result, the Canadian was released from the Senators so that the Colorado Avalanche hired him as a free agent after the season .

In the following three years he played for the Avalanche in the NHL before he signed a contract with the New York Rangers in the summer of 2009. This put him in the AHL at the Hartford Wolf Pack . At the beginning of November 2009 Arnason decided to move to Europe and signed a contract with Dinamo Riga . There he received no new contract after the 2009/10 season and was initially without a club. In October 2010 Arnason moved to Switzerland for EHC Biel , but only received a one-month contract.

Arnason was signed by EHC Visp in November 2010 until the end of the 2010/11 season. After a charity match against SC Bern and a championship match against HC La Chaux-de-Fonds , Arnason was released again due to a release clause in his contract. In January 2011 he was signed by the Finnish first division club Espoo Blues . After eight games, his contract was terminated at his own request in late February 2011 and Arnason returned to North America. In October 2011, he completed a try-out with the Texas Stars , for which he completed seven AHL games. In the same month, however, he ended his engagement in Cedar Park .
