history
At the beginning the settlement and the creek were called Running Brushy . In 1871 George Cluck made the journey on the Chisholm Trail , accompanied by his wife Harriet, the first woman to undertake this difficult journey. In 1873 Cluck bought this land including Running Bushy Spring and built the Cluck Ranch on it, which became the center of the community. The first post office was set up for Running Bushy in February 1874 and was operated by Harriet Cluck for eight years.
In 1882, the Austin and Northwestern Railroad completed its Austin to Burnet route , crossing Clucks land. In this context, the railway company renamed the settlement to Brueggerhoff , after the name of one of the company's partners. In 1887 the name was changed to Cedar Park. The quarrying of limestone for the construction of buildings became the most important economic factor in the following period up to 1970, which was favored by the proximity to Austin. Due to its proximity to Austin, a large part of the former farmland became building land in 1960 and the small town grew from 125 to over 3,000 inhabitants between 1970 and 1980. In 1990, 206 businesses and 5161 residents were registered. In 2000 this was already 20,049 residents and 862 shops.
