Mark Hartigan (born October 15, 1977 in Fort St. John , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey striker who has played for Linköpings HC in the Elitserien since December 2011 .
Career
Mark Hartigan began his career in 1996 in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Weyburn Red Wings . There he performed well and won the SJHL championship twice with the team, but was not selected by any NHL team in the NHL Entry Draft . From 1999 he went to St. Cloud State University and played for their ice hockey team. There he developed further and played his best season in 2001/02, when he scored 37 goals in 42 games and prepared 38. Hartigan was for player of the year of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Award and for the Hobey Baker Award as the best college players nominated .
At the end of the season, the Atlanta Thrashers from the NHL signed him, and he came to two appearances in the same season. The 2002/03 season he completed most of the AHL with the Chicago Wolves , the Thrashers' farm team , but was also used 23 times in the NHL and scored five goals. However, his contract was not renewed and he moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the summer of 2003 . But even there he could not prevail in the NHL squad, came to only 48 games in three seasons and spent most of his time at the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL, where he presented himself as a solid striker.
In January 2007 he was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks and came to six regular season appearances and one playoff appearance on the way to the Stanley Cup victory. However, he was not immortalized on the trophy due to the less contested games.
In July 2007, the Detroit Red Wings took him under contract, but he could not prevail in the training camp in the fall and played in the 2007/08 season initially with the farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins . In the AHL, Hartigan scored 23 times in 48 games for the Griffins and was the team's second top scorer. There were also 19 assists. Through his performance, he recommended himself for the NHL squad and was brought to the Red Wings in February 2008 when several strikers were absent due to injuries. Hartigan was mainly used in the fourth attack row and was also part of the regular formation when the team started in the playoffs. But after four games he was replaced by Darren Helm , and the Red Wings eventually won the Stanley Cup without Hartigan.
After his contract in Detroit was not renewed, Hartigan moved to Dinamo Riga in the KHL in the summer of 2008 . A year later he moved within the league to HK CSKA Moscow. In June 2010, the attacker returned to Dinamo Riga again.
In summer 2011, Hartigan signed a one year contract with the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the National League A . In December of the same year, his contract was terminated after he was last left as a surplus contingent player without use. A few days later he was signed by Linköpings HC .
