Charles-Hubert Itandje (born November 2, 1982 in Bobigny , France ) is a Cameroonian - French football goalkeeper . In addition to French citizenship, he also has that of Cameroon , as his parents come from this country.

Career

Charles Itandje played for several French clubs in his youth. He made the leap into professional football in 2001 when he switched to the first division club RC Lens , but initially played in the second team. The goalkeeper made his debut a year and a half later, on December 1, 2002 in the league game against EA Guingamp . He then quickly became the goalkeeper of the professionals in Lens. By 2007 he had completed 170 games there. In August 2007 Itandje moved to England for Liverpool FC . Although the Reds signed Diego Cavalieri a year later, another goalkeeper alongside Pepe Reina , the Frenchman stayed with the Premier League club. Due to a lack of seriousness on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster , he was suspended for two weeks in April 2009. In August 2009 he switched to the Greek first division promoted AO Kavala on loan and completed 19 Super League games by the end of the season .

In December 2010, Itandje returned to Greece. At Atromitos Athens he signed a contract valid until 2013 and ousted the Swede Jonas Sandqvist from the squad, whose contract was terminated. In the Super League 2011/12 , the Frenchman achieved a remarkable fourth place in the table with Atromitos. In the resulting play-offs of the UEFA Europa League 2012/13 , however, the Athens team failed just 2-1 after two games against English representatives Newcastle United .

For the 2013/14 season his club PAOK Thessaloniki loaned him to the Turkish Süper Lig for promoted Torku Konyaspor . At the end of the season he returned to PAOK.

For the 2015/16 season he moved to the Turkish first division club Çaykur Rizespor . At the end of the season he was put on the sales list and switched to league rivals Gaziantepspor for the new season . In spring 2017 he moved on to league rivals Adanaspor and played here until the end of the season.

National team

Itandje began his national team career in the French U-21 selection and played a game for them in 2002. Subsequently, he was no longer considered by those responsible at the French Football Association for eleven years.

In 2013 he received an offer from the Cameroonian national team to play in this national team from now on. Itandje agreed to the offer and made his international debut for Cameroon on March 24, 2013 .
