In his youth he moved to Banská Bystrica for FK Dukla , where he stayed until the age of 21. This was followed by the move to Matador Púchov , where he developed into a regular player in the central defensive midfield in the Corgoň liga . He experienced a career leap in 2003. At the beginning of the year, the reigning champion MŠK Žilina signed him. On February 13, 2003, he played his first game for the national team . With Žilina he defended the championship in the same year, which they could repeat again in the following season. It was followed by five more successful years at the northern Slovak top club with another championship and three runners-up championships. The MŠK Žilina was the first Slovak team to reach the main round of the UEFA Cup in 2008/09 . Then, at the age of 32, Zdeno Štrba decided to move abroad again. He joined the Greek Super League club Skoda Xanthi and proved to be a valuable midfield support from the start. In December 2010 he signed a contract with MŠK Žilina for 18 months.
