Kamil Kopúnek (born May 18, 1984 in Trnava ) is a Slovak football player . The midfielder has been under contract with Slovan Bratislava since January 2012 .

Career

Club career

Kopúnek started his career with his hometown club FC Spartak Trnava . There he went through the youth and in 2002 moved to the professional team in the Corgoň liga . In the first few years he was already used regularly before he became a regular in the central defensive midfield of Spartak from the 2004/05 season. In 2009 he became the team captain. Kopúnek was awarded Saturn Ramenskoye in 2010 and AS Bari in 2011 . In August 2011 he got a three-year contract with AS Bari.

In January 2012, before his contract expired, he moved back to his homeland, to Slovan Bratislava .

National player of Slovakia

Kamil Kopúnek already played for Slovakia's youth teams and took part in the 2003 U-20 World Cup. On 1 March 2006 he made his debut in the senior national team in a friendly match in France. In the following years he was only occasionally invited to insignificant games. It was only in 2009 that it was used in a qualifying game for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . After the participation was achieved for the first time in the history of the country, he was also included in the World Cup line-up of Slovakia as a replacement for Zdeno Štrba, who was placed on his position . He was substituted on for him in the third round game in the final minutes. Shortly after being substituted on, he scored the third goal for Slovakia, which brought the Slovak national team to victory over Italy and thus to the final round. In the last sixteen he came again as a substitute for his second World Cup appearance. However, the team was unable to make up for the deficit against the Netherlands and was eliminated 1: 2.
