Audette, who once took part in the NHL All-Star Game , has been a scout for the Canadiens de Montréal since 2012 . His son Daniel Audette is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
As a junior he played in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec with the Titan de Laval . In 1989 he led his team into the finals of the Memorial Cup with 161 points and was very successful there with nine points in four games. The Buffalo Sabers selected him in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft in the round as 183rd. Because of his slim stature, he was not trusted to make the leap into the NHL.
The Sabers put him in their AHL farm team with the Rochester Americans , where he now proved that he could also assert himself in the senior sector . He was voted rookie of the year and so the Sabers brought him in 1990 for two play-off games in their squad. A knee injury prevented his breakthrough in the NHL. After alternating assignments in Rochester and Buffalo, the 1990/91 season ended for him with four goals and three assists in eight games in December . For the 1991/92 season he returned to the ice and convinced with 31 goals. He developed into one of the most dangerous goal scoring players in the Sabers, but was repeatedly thrown back in his development by knee injuries.
For the 1998/99 season he was given to the Los Angeles Kings and in the course of the next season the Kings sent him together with František Kaberle in exchange for Kelly Buchberger and Nelson Emerson to the Atlanta Thrashers . At the Thrashers he shone in the 2000/01 season with 32 goals until mid-March when the Sabers brought him back to Buffalo. In the summer of 2001 he signed a contract with the Dallas Stars , but after just 20 games his journey continued. The Canadiens de Montréal brought him to the team with Shaun Van Allen and sent Benoît Brunet and Martin Ručínský to Dallas. In Montreal, too, his bad luck with injuries remained true to him. During the 2003/04 season , he moved to the Florida Panthers for a few games before ending his career.
After a break of several years, Audette was hired as a scout by his ex-team Canadiens de Montréal in 2012 . He also appeared as a coach in 2012 and 2013 when he coached Team Canada Québec at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge .
