František Kaberle junior (born November 8, 1973 in Kladno , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player . During his career in the National Hockey League , he played over 500 NHL games for the Carolina Hurricanes , the Atlanta Thrashers and the Los Angeles Kings . Kaberle comes from a traditional ice hockey family, he is the brother of Tomáš Kaberle , who is currently also playing in the NHL for the Boston Bruins , and the son of František Kaberle senior , who was internationally successful for the Czechoslovak national team in the 1970s .

Career

During his junior years he played for Poldi Kladno , where he began his professional career. In 1995 the then 21-year-old moved to Sweden and played in the Elitserien for MoDo Hockeyklubb . During this time he regularly took part in the ice hockey world championships and was world champion with the Czech national team in 1996 and 1999 . After his younger brother Tomáš made the leap into the NHL in 1998, he too moved into the focus of the NHL scouts .

For the 1999/2000 season he was in the Kings squad, but he was often used with the Long Beach Ice Dogs in the IHL and the Lowell Lock Monsters in the AHL . In mid-March he was handed over to the Atlanta Thrashers together with Donald Audette . In return, Kelly Buchberger and Nelson Emerson came to Los Angeles.

In Atlanta he made the breakthrough in the NHL and gave the defense of the new team security. Since the team could not qualify for the playoffs in those years, he continued to take part in the world championships for his home country and was able to win the world championship again in 2000 and 2001 .

In July 2004 he signed as a free agent with the Carolina Hurricanes , but the season was canceled due to a strike and so he bridged the time at home with HC Rabat Kladno and in Sweden with MoDo Hockeyklubb. For the 2005/06 season he was finally able to play for Carolina and won the Stanley Cup with the team . In the decisive game he contributed the decisive goal. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he won the bronze medal with his national team during that season.

A shoulder injury the following season prevented him from building on the excellent performance of the previous season. He was only able to start the season in February and scored the decisive goal in his first game. Also in the 2007/08 season he is one of the top performers in the defense of the Hurricanes.

At the end of July 2009, František Kaberle was bought out of his contract by the Carolina Hurricanes and then moved to his home club, HC Geus Okna Kladno. A jar later he moved to HC Pardubice within the Extraliga . For the 2011/12 season he joined HC Plzeň in 1929 and ended his career in August 2012.
