Tomáš Kaberle (born March 2, 1978 in Rakovník , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who played 1086 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs , Boston Bruins , Carolina Hurricanes and Canadiens de Montréal in the National between 1994 and 2016 Hockey League on the position of defender . Kaberle comes from a traditional ice hockey family, he is the brother of František Kaberle junior and the son of František Kaberle senior , who was internationally successful for the Czechoslovak national team in the 1970s .
Career
The 1.83 m tall defender played for Czech club HC Rabat Kladno for six years before being selected as the 204th player in the eighth round of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft .
First used with the Toronto farm team St. John's Maple Leafs in the AHL , the left-shooter completed his first NHL games in the 1998/99 season . After good performances in the following years, Kaberle was finally elected to the world team of the 52nd NHL All-Star Game 2002. Kaberle completed his second All-Star Game in 2007 when he was on the Eastern Conference team.
Overall, Kaberle returned to his home club twice, including during the 2004/05 lockout season . On February 11, 2006, Tomáš Kaberle extended his contract in Toronto for a further five years, the contract value was US $ 21.25 million.
In February 2011, the Toronto Maple Leafs gave him in a transfer deal in exchange for Joe Colborne , a first-round suffrage in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and a performance-related second-round suffrage in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft to the Boston Bruins . In the 2010/11 season , Kaberle won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins . The Czech became available as a free agent on July 1, 2011 , so the Carolina Hurricanes took him to sign a three-year contract on July 5, 2011, guaranteeing him an average salary of $ 4.25 million per year.
In December 2011, the Carolina Hurricanes transferred him to the Canadiens de Montréal in exchange for Jaroslav Špaček . During the lockout in the 2012/13 NHL season , he played ten games for HC Kladno . In June 2013, the Canadiens de Montréal paid out his contract early ( buy out ). Kaberle then played again for HC Kladno and HC Kometa Brno before ending his career in 2016.
International
Kaberle was on the ice for the Czech national ice hockey team at the 1999 , 2003 , 2005 and 2006 World Championships , he also took part in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and won the bronze medal with the Czech team at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin .
