The 2001/02 season was the ninth regular staging of the Czech extra league . In the play-off final, the previous season's runner-up, HC Sparta Prague , beat HC Vítkovice 3-1 . In the first division of the Czech Republic , the Bílí Tygři Liberec won the play-off final and met HC Vagnerplast Kladno in the relegation . This series ended 4-1 in favor of the White Tigers from Liberec , so that they were promoted to the extra league and the team from Kladno relegated to the first division.
mode
In 52 games, all teams play two complete double rounds, so each team has 26 home and away games. The teams in places 1 to 8 qualify directly for the play-offs, the quarter-finals of which are played in best-of-seven mode . Semi-finals and finals, on the other hand, will be played in best-of-five mode. For the teams in places 9 to 13, the season ends after the main round. At the end of the season, in addition to the playoffs, there will be a relegation, in which the last placed team of the Extraliga and the winner of the play-off final of the 1st division take part. In the best-of-seven mode with a maximum of seven games per team, the promoted to the extra league or relegated to the first division is determined.
Regular season
Last year's winner HC Vsetín had major financial problems and had to sell half the team. Some top players like Kratěna switched to HC Sparta Prague, which had a double budget compared to the other Extraliga clubs.
