Donald MacLean (born January 14, 1977 in Sydney , Nova Scotia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who has worked for the Los Angeles Kings , Toronto Maple Leafs , Columbus Blue Jackets , Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix during his playing career Coyotes was active in the National Hockey League . Since 2014 he has been the head coach of the Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák .
Career
Donald MacLean began his career as a hockey player in 1994 with the Beauport Harfangs from the LHJMQ . After a season there and a regular game in the following championship, the Canadian moved to league rivals Laval Titan before signing a contract with the Hull Olympiques from the LHJMQ that same season . In the 1995 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the second round at position 33 by the Los Angeles Kings . In the 1995/96 season he also played for the Hull Olympiques, before he made the jump to the American Hockey League in the summer of 1996 , where he received a contract with the Fredericton Canadiens . In the same season MacLean came to 22 missions with their partner team from the National Hockey League , the Los Angeles Kings.
In the 1998/99 season he played for both the Springfield Falcons from the AHL (41 missions), and for the Grand Rapids Griffins from the International Hockey League (28 missions). In the summer of 1999 he moved to the Lowell Lock Monsters , again from the AHL. Towards the middle of the 1999/2000 season he was given to the St. John's Maple Leafs , where he began the following season. In the 2000/01 season, the striker came to three appearances in the NHL, this time with the Toronto Maple Leafs . Before the 2001/02 season, the center extended his contract with the St. John's Maple Leafs for another year.
From 2002 to 2004, the 191 cm tall professional ice hockey player played at the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. In the 2003/04 season he completed some assignments in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets . In the summer of 2004 he decided to play in Europe due to the lockout . MacLean signed a contract with the Espoo Blues from the Finnish SM-liiga . For the 2005/06 season he returned to America and stormed for the Grand Rapids Griffins . He was also able to prove his skills in three NHL games at the Detroit Red Wings . In the following season he went for the San Antonio Rampage from the AHL on the ice and again took part in some games in the NHL.
Before the 2007/08 season the Canadians returned to Europe: He signed a contract with the ZSC Lions of the National League A . After eleven games in Switzerland, he moved to EC Red Bull Salzburg in the EBEL , with which he won the championship in 2008. The 2008/09 season began the striker with the Rødovre Mighty Bulls from the AL-Bank Ligaen . Towards the end of the 2008/09 season he signed a contract with the Malmö Redhawks from the Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan , which was extended the following summer for another season. In the spring of 2010, he made it to the Elitserien with the Redhawks , but received no contract for the following season.
In August 2010 Donald MacLean moved to KHL Medveščak Zagreb from the EBEL , where he initially received a trial contract. After the 2010/11 season, the striker declared his playing career over and was continued in July 2011 in the position of assistant coach at KHL Medveščak Zagreb.
