Career
Jason Wiemer began his career in 1991 with the Kimberley Dynamiters in the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League and continued his career a year later with the Portland Winter Hawks in the Western Hockey League , where he played three years. Wiemer was drafted in the first round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft as the eighth player by the Tampa Bay Lightning . In the 1994/95 season he still had 16 appearances for the Portland Winter Hawks in the WHL, but he also played 36 games for the Lightning in the National Hockey League , scored one goal and collected five points. In the two following seasons he exceeded these points and Wiemer had over 60 appearances each time. In the 1997/98 season he was now one of the regular players in Florida, but on March 24, 1998 he was transferred to the Calgary Flames in an exchange deal with Sandy McCarthy . By the end of the season, Wiemer had five points in twelve games for the Flames and he went into the following season as a regular.
On June 24, 2001, he was transferred to the Florida Panthers . There Wiemer managed the NHL season with the highest points of his career with 31 points in 70 games, making him the fourth-best scorer of the Florida Panthers that season. Nevertheless, he left the team after only one year, as he was transferred to the New York Islanders on July 3, 2002 , who traded Branislav Mezei to the Panthers. Even in New York he was unable to earn a permanent place in the long term and after a solid first season he was placed on the waiver list in November 2003 and selected by the Minnesota Wild . In August 2004 Wiemer signed a contract with the Calgary Flames, for which he had already played from 1998 to 2001. The 2004/05 season was canceled due to a lockout. He then played 33 games for the Flames, scored one goal and provided two assists. In March 2006 he was transferred to the New Jersey Devils for a four-round pick , for which he played 24 games and scored one goal.
During his career, Wiemer was considered a physically strong player who was not afraid of physical confrontations and who spent many minutes in the penalty box because of his tough style of play.
