Brian Lee Rolston (born February 21, 1973 in Flint , Michigan ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 1333 games for the New Jersey Devils , Colorado Avalanche , Boston Bruins , Minnesota Wild during his active career between 1995 and 2012 and the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . Rolston, who once took part in the NHL All-Star Game , celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the New Jersey Devils by winning the Stanley Cup in 1995 and in the jersey of the United States national team by winning the 1996 World Cup of Hockey .
Career
Rolston began his career in 1989 in the North American Hockey League with the Detroit Compuware Ambassadors , where he scored 95 points in 36 games in his sophomore season and finally in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft from the New Jersey Devils from the National Hockey League in the first round was selected at position eleven. From the fall of 1991 he went to Lake Superior State University and played for their ice hockey team. In his first year he was able to win the national college championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association with the team . In 1993 he was again in the final. There were also several awards, such as being elected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
After two years, he left college and joined the Albany River Rats , the New Jersey Devils' farm team in the American Hockey League . In the 1994/95 season he was part of the Devils' NHL squad for most of the season and won with them the trophy of the same name at the end of the 1995 Stanley Cup playoffs . In New Jersey he developed into a good two-way striker over the years, who worked a lot on the defensive in addition to his offensive activities. In November 1999 he was finally transferred to the Colorado Avalanche , where he did not stay long. In March 2000 they sent him to the Boston Bruins in an exchange deal .
In Boston he was able to increase his points yield and recommended himself for the US national team , which took him to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . There he was able to win the silver medal with the team. He played for Boston until 2004, but then signed a contract with the Minnesota Wild . He had to wait more than a year for his debut because the 2004/05 NHL season was canceled due to the lockout . His first season in Minnesota would be the best of his career with 79 points in 82 games.
During the 2006/07 season Rolston was invited to the NHL All-Star Game and was one of the best players with two goals and two assists in the 12: 9 victory of the Western Conference. In the summer of 2008 he returned as a free agent to the New Jersey Devils, where he spent another three years in the league. On July 28, 2011, the Devils transferred him to the New York Islanders in exchange for Trent Hunter . The attacker gave them to the Boston Bruins on February 27, 2012 together with Mike Mottau in exchange for Marc Cantin and Yannick Riendeau . On April 30, 2013 Rolston officially announced the end of his career after 17 seasons in the NHL.
