Career

Cuba in the jersey of the Ottawa Senators

During his junior years , Kuba played for HC Vitkovice , where he also began his professional career. In the 1995 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Florida Panthers in the eighth round in 192nd position.

In 1996 he went to North America and initially played in the American Hockey League . He used his first year with the Carolina Monarchs to get used to the North American style of play. In the following season for Beast of New Haven , he drew attention to himself, so that he came to his first five appearances in the NHL with the Panthers in the 1998/99 season . Mostly he played this season for the Kentucky Thoroughblades in the AHL. The following season he spent for the most part with the Houston Eros in the International Hockey League and was occasionally used in the NHL. A move to the Calgary Flames had no effect on his career, as he was committed to the Minnesota Wild in the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft shortly thereafter . In Minnesota he made the move to become a regular. This time was also successful for him internationally. He took part in the 2001 and 2002 World Championships for his home country . In the NHL, his good performance was honored by participating in the 2004 NHL All-Star Game .

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he won the bronze medal with the Czech national team . After his contract expired in the summer of 2006, he signed a contract with Tampa Bay Lightning . With 15 goals, 22 assists and 37 points, he achieved his best so far in the 2006/07 season . In summer 2008, after two years in Tampa, he was transferred to the Ottawa Senators together with Alexandre Picard for Andrej Meszároš .

On July 1, 2012, he signed a two-year contract worth $ 8 million as a free agent with the Florida Panthers . Due to the lock-out at the beginning of the 2012/13 season, he initially returned to his home club. With the resumption of play in the NHL, he ran again for the Panthers. A year later, the Panthers bought themselves out of the existing contract, then Cuba ended his career.
