Schultz celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team, winning gold medals at the 2004 and 2007 World Championships .
Career
The 1.83 m tall defender began his professional career with the Prince Albert Raiders in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , before he was selected in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft in 33rd position in the second round of the Minnesota Wild .
The left-handed shooter was first used by the Wild with the Cleveland Lumberjacks , a farm team in the International Hockey League , but the defender quickly made the leap into the NHL roster of the Saint Paul franchise . In 2003 the Canadian was part of the Western Conference team in the NHL YoungStars Game , and he spent the lockout in the 2004/05 season with the Kassel Huskies in the German Ice Hockey League .
After the 2006/07 NHL season , Schultz was set up as a free agent , hoping to be able to sign a long-term contract with the Minnesota Wild. After this failed, the Canadian finally signed a one-year contract worth 1.85 million US dollars , which has now been extended to six years.
On February 27, 2012, the Minnesota Wild transferred him to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Tom Gilbert . Two years later, on March 5, 2014, the Oilers traded him for a five-round suffrage from the Columbus Blue Jackets . In Columbus, however, Schultz only stayed three months, since he signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in July 2014 . With the Flyers, the defender completed his 1000th game in the NHL in the 2015/16 season.
After the 2016/17 season, the Flyers did not extend his expiring contract, so that Schultz has been looking for a new employer as a free agent since then .
International
With the Canadian national team , Nick Schultz was ice hockey world champion in 2004 and 2007 , and he also played in the 2006 World Cup . Since the team rotated at the 2007 World Cup when awarding the office of assistant captain , Schultz was allowed to wear the "A" in the final against Finland .
For the juniors, the left-handed shooter played the U20 World Championships in 2001 and 2002 , where Team Canada won the bronze and silver medals.
