Bradley Lorne "Brad" Brown (born December 27, 1975 in Baie Verte , Newfoundland and Labrador ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 341 games for the Canadiens de Montréal , Chicago Blackhawks , New York Rangers , Minnesota Wild and Buffalo Sabers have played in the National Hockey League (NHL) on the position of defender . In addition, Brown spent a significant part of his career in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he also played over 300 games.
Career
Brown spent his junior years initially over four years between 1991 and 1995 with the North Bay Centennials in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). At the end of his rookie season , the young defender was elected to the league's First All-Rookie Team. In his third OHL season, Brown was now a seasoned player and was instrumental in the fact that the Centennials won the J. Ross Robertson Cup , the championship trophy of the OHL, at the end of the 1993/94 season . This included participation in the prestigious Memorial Cup . He was also selected in the summer of 1994 in the NHL Entry Draft 1994 in the first round in 18th place by the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League (NHL). After winning the title, the defender spent another season at the Centennials, in which he was named OHL Humanitarian of the Year , and before the 1995/96 season finally moved to the Barrie Colts as an Overage player within the OHL . In the jersey of the Colts, however, the defensive player only ran 27 times before he was summoned to the professional area by the Canadiens de Montréal, which meant he spent the rest of the season with the farm team Fredericton Canadiens in the American Hockey League (AHL).
At the beginning of the 1996/97 season , the Canadian was finally a regular in Fredericton for the following two years and made his debut for Montréal in the NHL during the 1996/97 season. There Brown was finally firmly in the line-up at the beginning of the 1998/99 season after he had not recorded any further NHL appearances the previous year. A few games after the start of play, however, he was transferred to the Chicago Blackhawks together with Jocelyn Thibault and Dave Manson , who gave Jeff Hackett , Eric Weinrich , Alain Nasreddine and a four-round vote in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft to the French Canadians. In Chicago, the defender succeeded in establishing himself in the NHL and he was the next two years regular player. Another transfer brought him in October 2000 together with Michal Grošek to the New York Rangers , where he was on the ice for a season.
The Canadian then signed in July 2001 as a free agent a contract with the Minnesota Wild , who had only been accepted into the league the year before. With his experience Brown helped to establish the young franchise in the league and reached with him in the course of the Stanley Cup playoffs 2003 the final series of the Western Conference against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . In two of his three seasons in Minnesota, he acted as one of the team's numerous assistant captains, as there was no regular captain in office. At the end of the 2003/04 season , Brown became part of a transfer deal for the third time in his professional career when he was given a six- round vote in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft for a four-round vote of the same draft to the Buffalo Sabers . The defender played 13 games for the Sabers by the end of the season. Due to the lockout and the associated complete failure of the 2004/05 NHL season , no further games were added.
As a result of the lockout, Brown's virtues as a rough defender with the features of an enforcer were no longer in demand as before. Although he was equipped with a two-year contract by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the summer of 2005 , he only played for their farm team Toronto Marlies in the AHL. Due to back problems, he did not play 80 games for the Marlies over the course of two years. Only after his full recovery did he find a new employer in the Florida Everblades from the ECHL in January 2008 . These loaned him to the Hartford Wolf Pack from the AHL at the end of the 2007/08 season . The following game year Brown started again in the ECHL, this time with the Fresno Falcons . After good performance, he then received a trial contract with the Quad City Flames from the AHL in November 2008 , which a few weeks later was expanded to an engagement until the end of the season. In the summer of 2009, Brown ended his active career at the age of 33. In the 2016/17 season , the ex-player briefly returned to the ice hockey business when he was assistant coach for the Ottawa 67’s in the Ontario Hockey League.
