The Lotsenviertel is a city quarter in Cuxhaven , Alt-Cuxhaven and Cuxhaven- Döse between the port and Döse.

history

development

There used to be a residency requirement for pilots in Cuxhaven . They were not allowed to live more than 1 km from the pilot transfer point at the port and the Alte Liebe so that they could be deployed quickly. So they could only live in the adjoining western quarter. In the area of Alte Deichstraße, Lotsengang, Schillerstraße and Marienstraße there are still houses of the pilots.

That is why the residents and business people called this area in Cuxhaven the pilot district . The businessmen of the former Schiller Center joined forces in a project and introduced the new name Lotsenviertel . Up to December 2010 renovations were carried out in Schillerstrasse; it was paved with granite and clinker stones at the same level and the figures Cuxi and Jan Cux (based on the figure designed by Magda Roos ) were erected.
