development

Schillerstrasse 34

After Ritzebüttel and Alt-Cuxhaven had been united in 1872, the local area was expanded more towards the west.

There used to be a residency requirement for pilots in Cuxhaven . They were not allowed to live more than 1 km from the pilot transfer point at the port so that they could be deployed quickly. In the area of Schillerstraße, Alte Deichstraße, Lotsengang and Marienstraße there are still houses in which the pilots used to live. Due to the location, many retailers, small hotels, restaurants, service providers and craft businesses settled here in the 20th century; Apartments were increasingly rented out as holiday homes during the season. Residents and business people of the former Schiller Center named the area around this street as the pilot district .

Up to December 2010 renovations were carried out in Schillerstrasse; it was paved with granite and clinker stone at the same level, and the figures Cuxi and Jan Cux were erected. But business life then experienced difficulties.

The Lotsenfest in the Lotsenviertel with flea market takes place once in summer on Schillerstrasse.

In terms of traffic, the neighboring Marienstraße is served by the bus routes 1006, 1007 and 1010 of the KVG .
