Dave Manson (born January 27, 1967 in Prince Albert , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach , who worked for the Chicago Blackhawks , Edmonton Oilers , Winnipeg Jets , Phoenix Coyotes , Canadiens, among others de Montréal , Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League .
Career
Dave Manson began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with the Prince Albert Raiders , for whom he was active from 1983 to 1986 in the Canadian junior league Western Hockey League . During this period he was selected in the first round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft as the eleventh player of the Chicago Blackhawks . For the Blackhawks he played from 1986 to 1991 in the National Hockey League and developed into one of the leading players on his team. At the beginning of his professional career, he was also on the ice in six games for Chicago's farm team Saginaw Hawks in the International Hockey League . He was rewarded for his good performance by participating in the 1989 NHL All-Star Game . For the 1991/92 season the defender was given up within the NHL in exchange for Steve Smith to the Edmonton Oilers , where he was also able to convince in the following two and three quarters of years. During his time with the Oilers, he took part in the 1993 NHL All-Star Game . Shortly before the end of the 1993/94 season , the Canadian was transferred to the Winnipeg Jets . When the franchise was relocated for the 1996/97 season , he also first played for Winnipeg's successor team Phoenix Coyotes , before he was given to the Canadiens de Montréal in March 1997 in exchange for Murray Baron and Chris Murray .
At the beginning of the 1998/99 season Manson was part of an extensive transfer that allowed him to return to the Chicago Blackhawks. These let him move to the reigning Stanley Cup winner Dallas Stars after 15 months in February 2000 . With the Stars he also reached the Stanley Cup final in the 2000/01 season , but failed with his team with 2: 4 wins at the New Jersey Devils . Following the season, the former international signed a contract as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs . These gave him in November 2001 in exchange for the Finn Jyrki Lumme back to the Dallas Stars, with whom he ended his career at the age of 35 following the 2001/02 season. Most recently, he had also played two games for Dallas' farm team Utah Grizzlies from the American Hockey League .
Since 2002 Manson has worked as an assistant coach for his former WHL team Prince Albert Raiders.
International
For Canada Manson took part in the 1993 World Cup, where he was elected to the all-star team of the tournament.
Familiar
His son Josh is also a professional ice hockey player. He currently plays for the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL. His nephew Dylan Yeo is under contract with the Straubing Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League .
