Jyrki Olavi Lumme (* 16th July 1966 in Tampere ) is a retired Finnish ice hockey player , who in his playing career from 1985 to 2007, among other things for the Montreal Canadiens , Vancouver Canucks , Phoenix Coyotes , Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League has played.
Career
Jyrki Lumme began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with Ilves Tampere , for whom he was active in the SM-liiga from 1985 to 1988 . During this time he was selected in the third round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft as the 57th player by the Montréal Canadiens , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1988/89 season . He also ran this season for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Sherbrooke Canadiens . On March 6, 1990, the defense attorney was given a second-round suffrage to the Vancouver Canucks , for which he was on the ice for the following eight years. Only the 1994/95 season he began due to the lockout at his ex-club Ilves Tampere. Due to his popularity with Canucks fans, the left-handed shooter received the team-internal Babe Pratt Trophy as best defender in 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1997 .
In the summer of 1998 Lumme received a contract as a free agent with the Phoenix Coyotes , for which he was active for the following three seasons. He was then given on June 23, 2001 for Tyler Bouck to the Dallas Stars , which he left after only 15 games during the 2001/02 season in exchange for Dave Manson to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs . For the Leafs, he brought it in the following two years to a total of 124 games in the regular season, in which he scored a total of 29 points scorer, including ten goals. In addition, the Finn ran in 21 playoff games for the Maple Leafs, in which he gave two templates.
After a two-year break, Lumme decided before the 2005/06 season to make a comeback in the Finnish SM-liiga, in which he ended his career at Ilves Tampere in 2007 at the age of 40, where he had also started it in 1985.
International
For Finland Lumme took part in the U20 Junior World Championship in 1986 , as well as the World Championships in 1990 , 1991 , 1996 , 1997 and 2000 . He was also in Finland's squad at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , 1998 in Nagano , and 2002 in Salt Lake City , as well as the 1996 World Cup of Hockey .
