The Saginaw Hawks were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Saginaw , Michigan .

history

The Saginaw Generals continued the game operations of the Flint Generals in the International Hockey League in 1985 . In their first season 1985/86, the Generals reached third place in the East Division of the IHL with 90 points in 82 main round games. The following year they were able to improve and scored four points more. Thus, they placed second in the East Division. As early as the summer of 1985, the Saginaw Generals entered into a cooperation with the Chicago Blackhawks from the National Hockey League . However, the generals only changed their club name to Saginaw Hawks two years later, before the 1987/88 season. The nickname Hawks was symbolic of this cooperation between the two clubs. In the first season after the renaming, the club was able to qualify for the play-offs, where the second round was reached. A year later, in the 1988/89 season, the Hawks were eliminated in the first round of the play-offs. In the summer of 1989, the people in charge of the Chicago Blackhawks decided to end the cooperation with the Saginaw Hawks in order to cooperate with the league rivals Indianapolis Ice . The Saginaw Hawks were eventually disbanded before the 1989/90 season.
