The Flint Spirits were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Flint , Michigan . The venue for the Spirits was the IMA Sports Arena .
history
The Flint Spirits were founded in 1985 as a franchise of the International Hockey League . In their first season they finished tenth and thus last. Then they finished a season in fourth of nine places twice in a row and achieved the greatest success of their existence in the 1987/88 season when they moved into the final of the Turner Cup , in which they were in the best-of-seven Series lost to the Salt Lake Golden Eagles with 2: 4 wins. The next year Flint could not build on this success and was the second time last in ten participating teams. In the 1989/90 season, after a fourth place in the regular season with a sweep in the best-of-seven series against the Kalamazoo Wings, the Spirits were eliminated in the first play-off round, after which the franchise was relocated to Fort Wayne and that henceforth traded as Fort Wayne Komets .
