The San Francisco Spiders were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in San Francisco , California . The venue for the Spiders was the Cow Palace .
history
The San Francisco Spiders were founded in 1995 and were based in San Francisco. They played their home games in the neighboring city of Daly City . The club was able to qualify for the play-offs, but retired there in the first round after losing 3-1 to the Chicago Wolves . After the 1995/96 season, the San Francisco Spiders were disbanded. The reasons for this were problems with the hall and a lack of audience interest. While the Spiders weekend games were often attended by up to 8,000 spectators, fewer than 2,500 fans came during the week. Most of the players moved to other clubs of the IHL after the dissolution, the Kansas City Blades alone took eight players under contract.
