David Joseph "Dave" Maley (born April 24, 1963 in Beaver Dam , Wisconsin ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 512 games for the Canadiens de Montréal , New Jersey Devils , San Jose Sharks , Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders played in the National Hockey League on the left winger position . Maley celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Canadiens de Montréal, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 1986 . His nephew Rhett Ellison is a professional American football player.
Career
When David Maley was selected in the second round in the NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens de Montréal in 33rd position, he had been on the ice for the high school team Edina Hornets for a few years . In the fall of 1982 he went to the University of Wisconsin – Madison , before he joined the Canadiens at the end of the 1985/86 season. He was used in three games of the regular season and in seven playoff games and was able to celebrate winning the Stanley Cup with the team . In the following season he played mainly in the National Hockey League , but also had to play some games in the American Hockey League for the farm team Canadiens de Sherbrooke .
In the summer of 1987 he was transferred to the New Jersey Devils , where he was finally able to assert himself as a physically strong defensive striker. In his first year with the Devils he was able to move into the conference finals, but the next few years were largely unsuccessful. In January 1992 the Devils sent him to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Troy Mallette , twelve months later the San Jose Sharks signed him on the waiver list , which gave him to the New York Islanders in January 1994 . Since he played for a different team every twelve months, he could no longer build on his good performance. In addition, there were several injuries that made it more difficult for him. His contract expired in the summer of 1994 and he was unable to find another team until the start of the season, which only took place in January 1995 due to the lockout .
The San Francisco Spiders from unterklassigen International Hockey League took him in the summer of 1995 under the contract, but he could not recommend for the NHL and finished his career in 1996. David Maley opened shortly thereafter in San Jose , the roller hockey -Halle Rollin 'Ice , whose It still owns it and is home to several roller hockey teams in the San Jose area.
In the summer of 1999, Maley returned to the professional ice hockey business when he received a contract with the New Jersey Devils. In the NHL he was no longer used, but completed the season with the AHL farm team Albany River Rats and then finally ended his career. David Maley is now part of the team of radio commentators for the San Jose Sharks and comments as an expert on the side of Dan Rusanowsky .
International
At the international level, Maley represented his home country at the 1991 World Cup in Finland . He finished fourth with the United States national team , for which he contributed one assist in eight tournament games.
