Troy Matthew Mallette (born February 25, 1970 in Onaping Falls , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 471 games for the New York Rangers , Edmonton Oilers , New Jersey Devils , Ottawa Senators in the course of his active career between 1986 and 1997 , Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League on the left winger position .

Career

Mallette spent his junior years with Sault Ste. From 1986 to 1989 . Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League , who had selected him in the OHL Priority Selection in first overall position. Over the three-year period, the striker made 201 appearances for Sault Ste. Marie and collected 175 points . He was able to improve in all three years and increased his seasonal point yield from 45 in his rookie season to 78 in his third and final year in the league.

After the power forward was selected in the second round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft in 22nd place by the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League , the 19-year-old made it into the Rangers' regular roster in the summer of 1989. Mallette played 79 games in the regular season and collected 29 points, which he also set a career record. In the following season he had 22 points in 71 missions. Nevertheless, the Rangers separated from their young player in September 1991, as they gave him to the Edmonton Oilers as compensation for the commitment of Adam Graves in the free agent period .

This began an unsteady time for Mallette, which was also marked by many injuries. After only 15 games for Edmonton, the attacker switched to the New Jersey Devils in January 1992 in exchange for David Maley . He spent a year and a half there before becoming part of a transfer business again. Together with goalkeeper Craig Billington and a four-round suffrage in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft , he was given to the Ottawa Senators for the player package around Peter Sidorkiewicz and Mike Peluso . There Mallette played all 82 games of the season for the first time and reached 23 points scorer, which he built on the time with the Rangers. This was followed by two more seasons in the Canadian capital until the summer of 1996, but in which he was no more than an enforcer .

The Senators did not extend the winger's expiring contract, whereupon Mallette moved to the Boston Bruins as a free agent for a year . He left this in the summer of 1997 to - again as a free agent - to be hired by the Tampa Bay Lightning . There he suffered a serious back injury after three season assignments in October 1997, which meant that he had to end his active career prematurely at the age of 27.
