François Groleau (born January 23, 1973 in Longueuil , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who currently plays for the Isothermic de Thetford Mines in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey .
Player career
The 1.83 m tall defender began his career with the Shawinigan Cataractes and the Saint-Jean Lynx in the Canadian Junior League QMJHL before he was selected in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft as 41st in the second round by the Calgary Flames.
However, the left-handed shooter never completed an NHL game for the Flames and was only used by their farm team , the Saint John Flames in the American Hockey League . Also his other time in North America spent Groleau with lower-class teams, his only eight NHL appearances he played between 1995 and 1998 for the Montreal Canadiens . For the 1998/99 season , the Canadian moved to the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League , but after a year in Germany he returned to North America to play for the Quebec Citadelles in the AHL.
In 2000 Francois Groleau switched to Adler Mannheim , with whom he won the German championship in his first season and for which he played for a total of five years. After another DEL season at EV Duisburg , Groleau signed a contract with EHC Black Wings Linz for the 2006/07 season , with which he was able to reach the play-off semi-finals and failed there at the later runner-up EC VSV . For the 2008/09 season he signed a contract with the Diables Rouges de Briançon in Ligue Magnus . He played there for two years and won the Coupe de France in 2010 . In October 2010, Groleau signed a contract with Isothermic de Thetford Mines in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey .
