The Chatham Maroons were a Canadian ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Chatham-Kent , Ontario . The Maroons' venue was the Chatham Memorial Arena .

history

The Chatham Maroons were founded in 1949 as a franchise of the International Hockey League . In their very first season, the team won the Turner Cup in the 1949/50 season, after beating the Sarnia Sailors 4-3 in the finals in the Best-of-Seven series . Despite this success, the Maroons moved to the amateur league OHA Sr. A after three years, which they could decide for themselves in 1956 and 1960, where they then won the Allan Cup in the 1959/60 season , making the team Canadian amateur champions. In addition, Chatham reached the playoff finals in 1962 and 1963.

It was not until the 1963/64 season that the Chatham Maroons returned to the International Hockey League and thus to professional ice hockey. After a disappointing season with only 47 points from 70 games, the franchise then stopped playing.
