The Toledo Goaldiggers were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Toledo , Ohio . The Goaldiggers' venue was the Toledo Sports Arena .

history

The Toledo Goaldiggers were founded in the summer of 1974 after the Toledo Hornets had left town and continued to operate as Lansing Lancers . The Goaldiggers were able to win the Turner Cup , the championship of the IHL, in their first season in 1974/75 . After the club was eliminated in the first play-off round in the following season, the Goaldiggers managed to get to the final again in 1976/77, which was lost.

In the 1977/78 season, the team won the Turner Cup for the second time. They were able to repeat this success in 1982 and 1983. In 1984 the Goaldiggers were able to move into the play-off final for the last and up to then sixth time. After the 1985/86 season, the club was dissolved. The franchise was then sold to Russ and Diane Parker. The club moved to Kansas City and was called Kansas City Blades from then on .

One of the most famous players under contract with the Goaldiggers was today's sports commentator Mike Eruzione .
