The 1977/78 season was the 33rd regular season of the International Hockey League . During the regular season, the nine teams played 80 games each. In the play-offs the Toledo Goaldiggers prevailed and won the second Turner Cup in their club history.
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Dayton Gems went inactive.
- The Milwaukee Admirals from the United States Hockey League were added to the league as an expansion team.
- The Columbus Owls were sold ahead of the season and relocated to Dayton , Ohio , where they began the season under the name Dayton Owls . As early as December 1977, the team was relocated again, this time to Grand Rapids , Michigan , and ended the season under the name Grand Rapids Owls.
