Matthew Johnson (* 23. November 1975 in Welland , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who during his playing career from 1992 to 2005 among other 489 games for the Los Angeles Kings , Atlanta Thrashers and Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League on the Has contested the position of the left winger in the role of an enforcer .
Career
Johnson spent his junior years between 1992 and 1994 with the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League . With a size of 1.96 meters which made power forward and Enforcer many franchises of the National Hockey League attention, so that he in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 in the second round of the 33rd place of the los Angeles Kings was selected.
After the lockout of the 1994/95 NHL season ended , the striker joined the team and played his first 14 NHL games. After he had spent part of the 1995/96 season in the International Hockey League with the Phoenix Roadrunners , he received a permanent place in the Kings squad at the beginning of the 1996/97 season . His time there ended in the summer of 1999 after he remained unprotected in the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft and was selected by the newly formed Atlanta Thrashers . After the 1999/2000 season , the Thrashers separated from Johnson again and transferred him to the Minnesota Wild in September 2000 for a third-round vote in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft .
The Canadian played for the game for the next four years and in December 2002 he was the team captain . Since the 2004/05 NHL season fell victim to a lockout and Johnson had previously been operated on the shoulder, he suspended the entire game year. After his complete recovery, however, he informed the management of the Wild that he no longer wanted to fill the role of Enforcer. Thereupon the game paid him the sum of his last year of contract and separated from him. Johnson played his last games in the 2007/08 season in the ECHL for Augusta Lynx , Wheeling Nailers and Elmira Jackals .
