Alexander Lawrence Henry (born October 18, 1981 in Elliot Lake , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who played 177 games for the Edmonton Oilers , Washington Capitals , Minnesota Wild and among others between 1996 and 2014 Canadiens de Montréal has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . Henry was mainly active in the American Hockey League .
Career
Henry began his ice hockey career in 1995 in the Canadian junior league Northern Ontario Hockey Association with the Timmins Majors and also played two games for the Timmins Golden Bears before joining the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League , where he stayed for three years.
Henry began his professional career in 1999 with the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League , which played 185 games in three years. In 2002 Henry made his debut in the National Hockey League with the Edmonton Oilers , who put him on the transfer list after just three games. He played 38 games for the Washington Capitals and three for the Portland Pirates before returning to the transfer list on October 9, 2003. The Minnesota Wild became a new employer and Henry was now playing his first full NHL season. During the NHL lockout 2004/05 , Henry played in the German 2nd division at ESV Kaufbeuren and then returned to Minnesota, where he was temporarily team captain .
On August 22, 2006, Henry, now a free agent , was signed by the Nashville Predators , but only played for their farm team, the Milwaukee Admirals . In July 2008 he signed a one-year contract with the Montréal Canadiens , but played only two games in the NHL. Instead, he returned to the Hamilton Bulldogs, where he stayed until 2012.
On May 9, 2012 it was announced that Henry had signed a contract with the Düsseldorfer EG . There he spent a season before moving to HYS The Hague in the neighboring Netherlands . There he ended his active career in the summer of 2014. Following this, he worked from the summer of 2015 as an assistant coach at the U Sports -based Dalhousie University . He also worked for the Arizona Coyotes from summer 2017 .
