The 1996/97 OHL season was the 17th season of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The Ottawa 67’s won the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the team with the highest points in the regular season and were defeated in the playoff final by the Oshawa Generals , who thus won the J. Ross Robertson Cup .
Changes
The Niagara Falls Thunder were relocated to Erie and henceforth operated as Erie Otters . In addition, the Sudbury Wolves moved from the Central to the East Division , whereby the latter grew to seven teams, while the former only consisted of five teams. This was reversed the following year.
