Nicklas Carl "Nick" Boynton (born January 14, 1979 in Nobleton , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who played 626 games for the Boston Bruins , Phoenix Coyotes , Florida Panthers , Anaheim Ducks , Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . Boynton celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Chicago Blackhawks by winning the Stanley Cup in 2010 .
Career
Boynton played in the Ontario Hockey League during his junior years with the Ottawa 67’s . There he stood out for consistently strong performances, so that the Washington Capitals selected him in the first round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft as the ninth player. However, he couldn't agree on a contract with the Capitals and stayed in Ottawa with the 67's. With this team he also won the Memorial Cup in 1999 and was voted the best player of the final tournament.
At the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 he was on offer again and this time it was the Boston Bruins who secured the rights to him again in the first round, in 21st place. He quickly came to an agreement with the Bruins, but for the first two years he was almost exclusively on the AHL farm team at the Providence Bruins . Only in his third season 2000/01 he made his breakthrough in the NHL. Initially, he focused heavily on his defensive duties. Despite the lack of points, this performance was rewarded with an appointment to the NHL All-Rookie Team .
In the following years Boynton developed further and was nominated for the NHL All-Star Game in 2004. When the NHL went on strike, he played with the Nottingham Panthers in England .
Before the start of the 2006/07 season he was given to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Paul Mara . There he continued his solid defense work. The next move followed in the summer of 2008 when he was sent to the Florida Panthers together with Keith Ballard in exchange for Olli Jokinen . In the 2009/10 season , Boynton won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks . In February 2011 he was put on the waiver list by the Blackhawks and selected by the Philadelphia Flyers . After the season, the defender retired from playing at the age of 32.
