Alexander Alexandrowitsch Woltschkow ( Russian Александр Александрович Волчков ; born September 25, 1977 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player . His father Alexander Sergeevich Wolchkov was also a hockey player.
Career
Wolchkov began his career in his hometown at HK CSKA Moscow , for which he made his debut in the international hockey league in the 1994/95 season . The following season, the Russian moved to North America in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League and went on the ice for the Barrie Colts . After a good rookie season , in which he was subsequently elected to the league's all-rookie team , he was selected by the Washington Capitals in the first round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft in fourth position . He never fulfilled the expectations placed in him as a relatively early selected player, although the Russian was considered a talented junior player. The attacker completed another season in the OHL for the Barrie Colts, in which he increased his points and received a nomination for the Second All-Star Team of the OHL. In the following two years, however, the left-handed shooter did not play a game for the Washington Capitals in the NHL and was mainly on the farm team for the Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League . During the 1998/99 season , the Russian went on the ice for the Cincinnati Cyclones in the International Hockey League .
In the following season he completed three encounters for the Caps in the NHL, before he was given in February 2000 in a barter for a four-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2001 to the Edmonton Oilers . By the end of the season he came to 25 missions for the Hamilton Bulldogs and scored eight points before the Russian returned to his home country. This was followed by engagements with Molot-Prikamje Perm and Vitjas Podolsk in the Russian Super League . The 2001/02 season Wolchkov spent at HK Sibir Novosibirsk in the second highest division and was one of the best scorers in the league with 53 points in 50 matches. Even after returning to the Super League to Krylya Sowetow Moscow , he did not succeed in the breakthrough in the top division, so the striker ended the 2002/03 season at Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod . From 2003 to 2007 he was on the ice for HK Chimwolokno Mahiljou in the Belarusian extra league. After brief detours in the second Russian division to HK Dmitrow and Kapitan Stupino Wolchkov played until 2009 mainly for HK Junost Minsk .
After several club changes within the Belarusian extra league, the Russian accepted an offer from HK Beibarys Atyrau during the 2009/10 season , with which he subsequently participated in the Kazakh ice hockey championship. For the 2010/11 season he moved within the league to HK Ertis Pawlodar , for whom he played five games before ending his career.
International
Wolchkov represented the Russian national team at the Junior World Cup in 1997 and won the bronze medal with the selection. In the course of the tournament he came to six missions and contributed two assists.
