Daniel Chester "Dan" Hinote (born January 30, 1977 in Leesburg , Florida ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach . During his playing career between 1994 and 2010, he played 575 games for the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues played in the National Hockey League on the right winger position . Hinote celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Colorado Avalanche by winning the Stanley Cup in 2001 . He has been a coach since the end of his active career.
Career
The 1.83 m tall winger began his career with the United States Military Academy team in the NCAA college organization , before becoming 167th in the seventh round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and the first Military Academy player in a Colorado draft Avalanche was selected ( drafted ).
First, the right-shooter moved to the Canadian Junior League OHL , where he spent one and a half seasons with the Oshawa Generals . Then Hinote went to the Hershey Bears , the Avalanche farm team in the American Hockey League . In the 1999/00 season , the striker made it into the NHL roster of the Denver franchise for the first time , and within just one season Hinote became a regular with the Avalanche. With Colorado Hinote was finally in 2001 the Stanley Cup , the North American Hockey League, win the lockout in the 2004-05 season he spent at MODO Hockey Ornskoldsvik in the Swedish Elitserien .
After the 2005/06 season , Hinote's contract in Denver was not renewed, so he was signed on July 3, 2006 as a free agent by the St. Louis Blues . Due to a shoulder injury, the attacker was able to complete only 41 games in his first season in St. Louis, in 2007/08 he had to pause for 24 games due to a hip injury.
After the 2008/09 season , he could not find a new club and became a so-called unrestricted free agent . Although he denied the season preparatory training camp of the San Jose Sharks , but could not recommend himself for a contract there. It was not until November 2009 that he was signed again by MODO Hockey Örnsköldsvik. Dan Hinote ended his career as an active athlete at the end of the 2009/10 season and signed a contract as an assistant coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets on July 1, 2010 . After four years in this role, he did not renew his contract in the summer of 2014.
