Jan Snopek (born June 21, 1976 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who now works as a youth coach.
Career
Jan Snopek began his career as a hockey player with the Oshawa Generals , for whom he was active from 1993 to 1997 in the Canadian junior league Ontario Hockey League . In the 1996/97 season he and his team won the J. Ross Robertson Cup , the OHL championship. In the Memorial Cup that followed, he was elected to the All-Star Team. During his junior years, the defender was selected in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 109th player by the Edmonton Oilers , for whom he never played. Instead, he started the 1997/98 season with the Saint John Flames from the American Hockey League , for which he only played two games before he spent the rest of the season at VIK Västerås HK in the Swedish Elitserien . He then returned to his Czech homeland, where he was on the ice for two years for HC Karlovy Vary , HC Slavia Prague and HC Znojemští Orli in the Extraliga .
For the 2004/05 season Snopek was obliged by HC Pardubice , with whom he won the Czech championship title straight away . He contributed to this success with 29 scorer points, including seven goals, in a total of 66 games. From 2007 to 2009 the right-shooter was even the team captain in Pardubice. Nevertheless, he left the club and played for HC České Budějovice in the following year and a half , before ending the 2010/11 season at Kärpät Oulu in the Finnish SM-liiga . There he also spent the entire following season . In January 2013 he moved to Italy, where he signed with Milano Rossoblu from the A1 series .
At the beginning of the 2013/14 season he completed a try-out with the WSV Sterzing Broncos , received a contract, but decided in October 2013 to leave the Broncos. He then ended his career, finished his training and has been a junior and fitness trainer at HC Plzen since 2014 .
International
For the Czech Republic , Snopek took part in the Euro Hockey Tour in 2004 . In three games he remained without point and punishment.
