Michael Joseph Mottau (born March 19, 1978 in Quincy , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player and current scout who played 340 games for the New York Rangers , Calgary Flames , New Jersey during his playing career between 1996 and 2014 Devils , New York Islanders , Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . Since summer 2014 he has been working as a scout for the Chicago Blackhawks from the NHL.

Mike Mottau began his career as a hockey player on the Boston College team , for which he was active from 1996 to 2000. During this time he was selected in the seventh round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 182 players by the New York Rangers , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2000/01 season . After two and a half years, the American was transferred from New York to the Calgary Flames on January 22, 2003 , for whom he was on the ice four times in the NHL until the end of the season, before becoming a free agent of the Mighty on July 25, 2003 Ducks of Anaheim was obliged for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks , he was exclusively active in the following season.
It followed a year each with the Worcester IceCats and the Peoria Rivermen in the AHL, before the American on July 17, 2006 received a contract with the New Jersey Devils from the NHL, for which he was active until the end of the 2009/10 season . In September 2010, Mottau signed with the New York Islanders .
On February 27, 2012, the Islanders transferred him to the Boston Bruins together with Brian Rolston in exchange for Marc Cantin and Yannick Riendeau . In July 2013, he signed a one-year contract with the Florida Panthers . After its expiry, the defender ended his career and subsequently took on an engagement with the Chicago Blackhawks as a scout .
International
For the USA , Mottau took part in the 1998 Junior World Championships , as well as the A-World Championships in 1999 , 2000 and 2003 .
