Dudhwa National Park

The Dudhwa National Park is located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on the border with Nepal . It covers an area of ​​around 490 square kilometers. Thanks to the efforts of the former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the famous conservationist Billy Arjan Singh , the area was placed under protection and received national park status in 1977. Dudwha is famous for its large populations of lowland barasinghas (over 1600) and tigers (98 in 1995). Since 1984 also were rhinos reintroduced from other areas. Occasionally some elephants migrate over from the neighboring Bardia National Park . Other large mammals are Indian leopards , Asiatic black bears , sambar , spotted deer , wild boar , barking deer , rhesus monkey and gray langur .
