Rajaji National Park

The Rajaji National Park is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand near the city of Haridwar was founded in 1984 by amalgamating several game reserves. Its name is derived from the famous freedom fighter C. Rajagopalachari .

The park has an area of ​​820 km² and today represents roughly the north-eastern distribution limit of the Asian elephant . With over 400 specimens (in 1999), it is also home to one of the largest elephant populations in northern India. About 30 Bengal tigers were counted in the national park at the same time .
