Nagarhole National Park
The Nagarhole National Park , also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park is designated a protected area in the south of India in the state of Karnataka . It is embedded between the Western Ghats and the Nilgiri Mountains and extends over an area of around 640 square kilometers in the Kodagu and Mysore districts . Together with the neighboring Bandipur National Park (approx. 870 km²) and the Mudumalai National Park (approx. 320 km²) it forms the largest complex of protected areas in South India.
The vegetation consists mainly of tropical forests and bush and grasslands. The north-western areas of the reserve are more humid than the southern areas, where the park is adjacent to the Bandipur National Park.
The reserve offers a habitat for numerous large animals that have already been exterminated elsewhere. Nagarhole, for example, has a considerable elephant population, which mainly gather at the reservoirs during the dry season. Large predators include tigers , leopards , sloth bears and Asian wild dogs . The ungulates are by Gaure , four-horn antelope , sambar , spotted deer , barking deer , India Kant Chile represented and wild boar. With hat monkeys , hanuman langurs and wanderus , monkeys come in three different species. In the mountains around the park there are also Nilgiri Tahrans and Nilgiri langurs .
