The Indravati National Park is a national park in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh . It is located 168 kilometers west of Jagdalpur on the Indravati River in the Dantewara district and has an area of ​​1,258.37 km². The heights in the hilly region vary between 177 and 599 m above sea level. It is home to an abundance of wildlife including tigers, leopards, deer, antelopes and one of the last two wild water buffalo populations in central India.

As early as 1975, a nature reserve was established in the region with an area of ​​2,799.08 km². In 1981 part of this area became the Indravati National Park. The name is derived from the Indravati River , which forms the northern boundary of the park.

Flora and fauna

The park has been part of the tiger species protection program since 1983 . In addition, it is home to one of the last populations of the wild water buffalo . Other large animals in the park are Indian Leopard , sloth bear , Asiatic Wild Dog , striped hyena , gaur , nilgai , Blackbuck , four-horned antelope , Axis and Sambarhirsch , Indian muntjac , Fleckenkantschil , wild boar and Hulman and rhesus monkeys. In addition, various reptiles such as crocodiles , pythons , cobras and numerous species of birds can be found here. The flora is mainly dominated by primeval forest ( sal tree , bamboo , teak tree ) and grassland.
